The Knoxville Jewish Alliance (KJA) is a single organization that runs both our local Arnstein Jewish Community Center and our local United Jewish Community organizations. In a very creative move several years ago, as one of the smallest organized Jewish communities in the USA, we merged our community's non-religious organizations for efficiency and improved communication. We share funds, office staff, boards of directors, committee leaders and lots of other resources and as a result more effectively serve the needs of our active, committed Jewish community in a coordinated manner.
The Arnstein Jewish Community Center (AJCC) was founded in 1929 by Max & Lalla Arnstein. Membership is open to all. Programs include a highly-rated preschool, an American Camping Association-accredited summer day camp, after-school and children's activities, swim team, classes, cultural programs and holiday celebrations. Our 25,000 square foot facility on 13 acres in West Knoxville has four-lighted tennis courts, a newly renovated swimming pool, a fenced wading pool, a gym, meeting rooms, preschool rooms, a stage, archives and offices. The AJCC facility is home to our local BBYO, Hadassah and the KJA.
The to KJA annually allocates funds to other social service agencies in Knoxville, the United States, Israel, and around the world which can further our goals of Tikkun Olam (heal the world).
The Board of Directors of the KJA manages the AJCC facility, runs the local UJC Annual Campaign, and organizes a large variety of activities, services and funds for local and global Jewish communities, often in coordination with our local religious institutions.
